THEIR STORY

The BYU Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering consists of highly-recruited and sharp students. While it is a renowned program, they face two main issues:

1. Currently, women make up 8% of the program. Recruiters are more likely to work with universities that have more diversity.

2. As part of the program, students participate in a Capstone project before they graduate. The department recruits these companies and needs more companies to host projects.

The branding of the department has experienced little change in the past and needed a redesign to target those sponsors, new students, and recruiters.

MY SOLUTION

In order to overcome these difficulties, a rebrand was necessary. The goal was to make everything look clean and modern for the new audiences. To make that happen, I had to conduct research about the current student to see what they appreciate about the program, and especially discover what is keeping women from joining the program. Next, using that information, I created marketing materials and website suggestions to reach those audiences.

Doctor Phil Lundrigan and his team of BYU students deployed 50 air quality sensors in the world's most polluted capital, Ulaanbaatar.

Electrical Engineering student Yahir Hilario recently completed an internship with Intel and is spending the rest of his summer flipping houses.

Dr. Willie Harrison, an Electrical Engineering professor, will receive funding and an increased budget from the NSF to finance his wiretap code research proposal.
